Features of UHMWPE sheets :
1, Very high wear resistance. One of the most remarkable properties of UHMWPE is its extremely high wear resistance, which is very valuable in many engineering applications. In all plastics, the wear resistance is best, which is better than regular grinding of many metal materials (such as carbon steel, stainless steel, bronze, etc.). As the molecular weight increases, the wear resistance of the material also increases.
2, High impact resistance. The impact strength of uhmwpe is related to its molecular weight. When the molecular weight is less than 2 million, as the molecular weight increases, it reaches a peak of about 2 million. Exceeding this data, the elevated molecular weight impact strength will instead decrease. This is due to the fact that the molecular chain prevents its optical crystal from acting so much that there is a large amorphous region in the macromolecule and thus can absorb large impact energy.
3, Very low coefficient of friction. Uhmwpe is very wear-resistant, low friction coefficient and good lubrication performance. It is an ideal bearing sleeve, slider, and lining material.
4, Good corrosion resistance. In addition to concentrated nitric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, it will not be corrosive in all alkalis, acids, and can be used in concentrated hydrochloric acid at a temperature of 80 °C, also in <20% of nitric acid, <75% of sulfuric acid Stable, it is also stable to water and liquid washing.
5, Very low water absorption. Uhmwpe has low water absorption, it is almost non-absorbent, does not swell in water, and is much less absorbent than nylon.
6, Thermal performance. According to the ASTM (Load 4.6kg/cm2) method, the heat distortion temperature is 85°C. Under a small load, the use temperature can reach 90°C. Under special circumstances, it is allowed to use at higher temperatures due to Uhmwpe. It is an excellent material with excellent toughness, so its low-endurance performance is also very good. At a low temperature of -269°C, it still has a certain ductility without signs of brittle fracture.
7, Electrical properties. Uhmwpe has very good electrical properties over a wide temperature range. It has a volume resistance of 10-18 cm, a breakdown voltage of 50 kV/mm, and a dielectric constant of 2.3. In a wide temperature and frequency range, its electrical performance changes minimally. In the heat-resistant temperature range, it is very suitable for use as a structural material for electrical engineering and as a material for paper mills.
8, No toxicity. Uhmwpe is odorless, non-toxic and odorless. It is non-corrosive, physiological and physiologically adaptable. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) allow it to be used in contact with food and medicine. .
Its characteristics, especially wear resistance, impact resistance, self-lubricating properties, are the best among engineering plastics.
